Three volunteers of The Hug Team

Making Connections, One Hug At A Time

Bear Carnival isn’t just about epic parties—it’s especially about community and  friendship! Every year, hundreds of solo travelers join the fun, looking to make new connections within the bear world. But let’s be honest: breaking the ice isn’t always easy.

That’s where The Hug Team comes in!

This team of enthusiastic volunteers (easily recognizable in their pink T-shirts) will roam around key Bear Carnival events, ensuring that everyone—especially solo bears and first-timers—feels welcome, included, and part of our family. Whether it’s starting casual conversations, introducing new friends, or sparking fun moments with lighthearted games and photo ops, The Hug Team is here to make Bear Carnival a truly social and unforgettable experience.

Of course, some attendees prefer to enjoy the event at their own pace, and that’s absolutely fine. But for those who want to meet new people, laugh, and create amazing memories, The Hug Team is here to help make it happen

Join The Hug Team!

We’re looking for friendly, outgoing bears (or friends!) who enjoy bringing people together and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Although this is a volunteer role, Hug Team members do get:

  • Free entry to the event they volunteer for (ticket refunded if already purchased – just tell us!)

  • Free entry to all official Club Kiki and Basement events (regardless you are volunteering that night or not). This is only subject to capacity.

  • A few free drinks at pool parties to keep the energy flowing

  • The gorgeous Hug Team pink T-Shirt

  • The joy of making Bear Carnival even more special by fostering a truly welcoming community!

Your Responsibilities as a Hugger

As a Hug Team volunteer, your mission is simple: spread good vibes! Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Checking the provided team planning and team chat for any possible last-minute change.

  • Being punctual at the provided meeting time for team briefing.

  • Approaching attendees who seem open to socializing and engaging them in casual conversation.

  • Helping solo travelers connect with others, especially first-time attendees.

  • Facilitating group interactions through previously planned small games, icebreakers, or photo opportunities.

  • Encouraging a welcoming atmosphere while respecting personal boundaries

  • Being a friendly, positive, and approachable presence throughout the event, occasionally giving basic information on the bear week for those who ask.

  • Checking your phone and Hug Team coordination channels at least twice a day for updates.

  • Getting familiar with the event, as some first-timers may turn to you for basic info. It’s just a matter of investing some time navigating the website and learning about the bear week and the destination.

  • Oh yes, and please remove your official pink tee and lanyard at cruising areas! 😅
